Art at Swanbourne House | Independent School Buckinghamshire

Art at Swanbourne House nurtures creativity by linking contemporary practice with rich artistic traditions.

From Year 3 onwards, pupils enjoy specialist art lessons in our dedicated studio, where they develop strong observational drawing skills and explore colour, texture, form and space.

Hands-on experience is central to our approach. Pupils work across painting, sculpture, collage, ceramics, printing, textiles, and digital art, encouraging both experimentation and refinement. Inspiration comes not only from the classroom but also through visits to galleries and museums and encounters with practising artists and designers.

Exhibitions and Showcases

Our Art Department hosts major exhibitions twice a year, celebrating pupils’ best work. Pupils also contribute to prestigious external events such as the Stowe Art Exhibition.

Art Clubs and Enrichment

Creative opportunities extend beyond the classroom. From age five, children can join pottery, textiles, and crafts clubs. As they progress through the Middle and Upper School, pupils take part in regular Art Clubs and Saturday enrichment sessions.

Pupils on scholarship pathways to Senior School are also prepared for art scholarships in our dedicated mentoring programme.
