A True Home-from-Home

The Boarding House is based in the Main House, with boys’ dormitories on the first floor and girls’ on the second floor. Bedrooms are modern, cosy and comfortable, with space to personalise and make their own. Staff live on each floor within the Boarding House, ensuring support and care are always close at hand.

Facilities include:

  • Spacious sitting room (which transforms into a cinema room).

  • Wellbeing hub and breakout rooms for quiet time.

  • A  snug, complete with teepee and mood lighting.

  • A games lounge with pool, table tennis, chess and more.

  • Private telephone box to call home.

Just minutes from the A421, A422, A5, M1 and M40, the school is easily accessible for families travelling from Milton Keynes, Buckingham, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and London.

For those arriving by train, Milton Keynes Central offers fast direct services from London Euston in just 30 minutes.

Evenings & Weekends

Evenings strike a balance between relaxation and activity. Some pupils join friends for sports, music or clubs, while others curl up with a book, enjoy a film or spend time in the common rooms.

Meals are hearty and varied, with hot and cold breakfasts, themed dining nights, traditional Sunday roasts and weekend treats. Fresh fruit and snacks are always available.

Boarders also enjoy outings to the theatre, cinema, bowling, and even indoor skiing – taking advantage of our prime location near Milton Keynes, Oxford, Cambridge and London.

Activities & Opportunities

Boarding at Swanbourne House means access to the full breadth of our co-curricular programme. Boarders join art clubs, language labs, sports squads, drama rehearsals, and outdoor pursuits – with recent options including coding, pop & rock, jazz, swimming and triathlon.

At weekends, boarders join our Saturday Enrichment Programme, with clubs, workshops and trips designed to inspire curiosity and fun. From skiing, sailing and trampolining to jewellery design, chess and cooking, the variety is endless.

Those on the scholarship pathway benefit from weekly specialist mentoring in Music, Drama, Art, D&T, Sport and Academics, giving them the skills and confidence to shine at their next schools.

The Stowe Group

Located just 20 minutes from Stowe, many families  –  particularly those joining from overseas  –  choose Swanbourne House as a stepping stone into boarding at Stowe, giving children the chance to build confidence, friendships and a strong academic foundation within a smaller prep environment before moving on.

Families also benefit from a 10% discount on Boarding fees at Stowe.

Belonging to The Stowe Group also gives our pupils access to a wealth of additional facilities and experiences, while ensuring continuity of ethos, opportunity and educational excellence.

What types of boarding do you offer at Swanbourne House?

We offer weekly boarding (Monday–Friday), full boarding and flexi-boarding, giving families the flexibility to choose the option that works best.

How far is Swanbourne House from London?

Swanbourne House is located in Buckinghamshire, less than an hour from London by train and close to major road networks. We are also conveniently situated near Heathrow, Luton, and Birmingham airports, making travel easy for UK and international families.

What is boarding life like at Swanbourne House?

Our recently refurbished Boarding House provides a warm, family-style environment with comfortable dormitories, common rooms, and access to excellent facilities across our 55-acre site. Boarders enjoy structured study time, supervised activities, and a wide range of evening and weekend opportunities.

Do you welcome international boarding pupils?

Yes. Swanbourne House is proud to be a British boarding school that welcomes pupils from around the world.
