Computing at Swanbourne House
Computing provides pupils with a strong foundation in Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Information Technology. In the Early Years, learning is introduced through exploration and play, nurturing curiosity and creativity from the very start. From Year 2 onwards, pupils benefit from access to designated computing suites, giving them the tools and space to develop their skills in a structured way. The Computing Department also enriches learning through a weekly Code Club, where children can explore creative coding projects in a fun and joyful environment.
It is a hands-on and imaginative subject, where pupils are encouraged to problem-solve, collaborate and apply their knowledge in practical contexts. As they grow in confidence and experience, pupils progress from block-based programming to more sophisticated text-based languages, developing confidence in writing and debugging their own code. They explore physical computing through Micro:bits and Raspberry Pis, as well as creative applications such as coding in Minecraft. A strong focus is also placed on online safety and responsible digital behaviour, ensuring pupils learn how to navigate the digital world with confidence and care.
