Drama at Swanbourne House

With a dedicated drama room and specialist teaching throughout the school, every pupil is encouraged to express themselves creatively and build confidence on stage. All children have the chance to take on speaking roles, whether in our annual Nativity or smaller, informal productions throughout the year.

Curriculum

Weekly 60-minute lessons inspire passion, creativity, and confidence. Each half term focuses on a new theme, with pupils exploring improvisation, scripted drama, dance, singing, mime, directing and physical theatre. Through this, they gain experience in musical theatre, comedy and characterisation

Every pupil takes part in at least one production each year, with speaking roles guaranteed from age eight. Younger children perform nativity plays, Years 3 and 4 stage musicals, Year 5 produces classic plays in the outdoor amphitheatre, Year 6 delivers a Shakespeare showcase and Year 7 performs a Christmas pantomime.

Our Senior Musical (open to Years 6+) is staged in the Bridget More Hall with professional-level lighting, sound and a live band. Past productions include Fame, Grease, The Sound of Music, Shrek the Musical, Matilda the Musical, Hairspray and Footloose.
