Music at Swanbourne House

Music is woven into daily life at Swanbourne House, with over 60% of pupils learning an instrument or taking singing lessons — and many mastering more than one. Our approach embraces a wide range of styles, from classical to contemporary, ensuring every pupil has the chance to discover their own musical interests.

Curriculum

Our curriculum balances technical skills with musical expression, encouraging children to explore how music makes them feel.

We have specialists across a range of disciplines and excellent facilities, including a fully equipped music room, several practice spaces and a dedicated Percussion Room. From Year 3 onwards, pupils can take individual lessons on instruments ranging from violin, piano and guitar to harp and drums.

Clubs, Ensembles and Enrichment

Beyond the classroom, pupils can join jazz, string, percussion, brass, and guitar groups, or try songwriting and music technology through Saturday Enrichment. Our Senior Choir performs locally and internationally, with tours to Jersey, Normandy, and the Netherlands in recent years. The Senior Vocal Group offers a selective programme of specialist vocal tuition for older pupils.

Performances and Concerts

Performance is central to music at Swanbourne House. Pupils take part in regular concerts, masterclasses and workshops throughout the year (such as the Les Misérables workshop at Stowe, left), gaining confidence and invaluable stage experience.

We also host Christmas and Summer Concerts with a variety of musical disciplines and styles featured, from jazz to classical to rock.
