Pastoral Care & Wellbeing at Swanbourne House

Pastoral care is the foundation upon which everything at Swanbourne House is built. We place the utmost importance on this vital element of school. Pastoral care is not something else that we add to the plate, it quite simply is the plate.

What does that mean in reality? It is based on strong relationships. The relationships that the children have with each other, the relationships that they have with the adults who work here and the relationship between the school and the parents. These are relationships built on trust and understanding and ones that have dignity at their core.

The pastoral care network is woven through the whole school from class teachers and tutors, the school nurse and houseparents to the estates and domestics teams. We are all here to give your children the best care and keep an eye out for them at all times.

We have robust structures in place to deal with all the ups and downs that are normal when you are educating pupils from 3 to 13 and a strong external team to draw upon should we need to. Good pastoral care is both informative and reactive.

From the classroom to the playing fields, the Wellbeing Hub to the woods, Swanbourne is a community where children are encouraged to grow with confidence, resilience and joy. Our pastoral care helps ensure that every pupil has the support they need to thrive, not just academically, but as happy, healthy, confident young people.

Spaces for Wellbeing

With 55 acres of beautiful grounds, Swanbourne offers pupils unique opportunities for reflection, play and restoration.

The Wellbeing Hub, based in our Boarding House, is a calm and supportive space open at break times. Staffed by our trained Mental Health First Aiders and supported by Wellbeing Prefects from Years 7 and 8, it provides a welcoming environment for any child seeking a moment of pause or connection.

Pupil Voice & Leadership

Every pupil at Swanbourne House is an anti-bullying ambassador, living out our Swanbourne Way values of Kindness, Curiosity, and Effort.

Our Student Council, elected from Years 2–8, meets half-termly to champion pupil voice in areas such as mental health, wellbeing, charity work, play, and enrichment.

Leadership roles, including School Captains, Prefects, and Heads of Houses, play an active part in fostering a supportive and inclusive school community, ensuring that every child feels a strong sense of belonging.
