Sport is an integral part of our pupils’ development. Our goal is to provide a sports programme that plays a vital role in shaping the all-round growth of our pupils, and for every pupil to participate in and enjoy sport, not just during their time here, but as a passion they carry with them throughout their lives.

Early Years pupils in PE lesson at Swanbourne House

Early Years Sport at Swanbourne House

From Pre-Reception to Year 2, pupils enjoy weekly PE and swimming at the Main School, taught by qualified PE teachers and our resident swimming specialist.

PE lessons develop agility, balance and coordination through fun, structured activities that build confidence and teamwork skills.

Sports skills progress each term, from catching and passing to racket sports, running, and jumping. Swimming follows our bespoke Early Years Framework, building water confidence and teaching core strokes so every child feels safe and capable in the pool.

Swimming

Our 20m x 8m indoor swimming pool, with depths ranging from 1m to 2m, provides an outstanding facility for pupils to develop water confidence and refine their technique. Swimming is a key part of our curriculum for children throughout the school, ensuring every pupil benefits from regular lessons with our specialist coach.

Pupils proudly represent Swanbourne House in 4–5 local galas each year, as well as the prestigious IAPS National Swimming Competition. In recent years, our swimmers have excelled, reaching the national finals in both 2023 and 2024.

For those showing particular promise, we run two invitational swim squad sessions per week, providing advanced training and preparation for competitive events. These sessions nurture talented athletes while inspiring a lifelong love of swimming in all.

Co-Curricular Sport

Our busy programme of extra-curricular activities runs throughout the week and into Saturday morning (for years 5 to 8), offering pupils a variety of opportunities to develop their skills, receive mentoring and enjoy new sporting experiences. From established sports squads to skill-building sessions and fun, exploratory activities, there’s something for everyone.

We take great pride in the breadth of options available, allowing pupils to not only enhance their abilities in familiar sports but also discover new passions. Our programme has included a diverse range of activities such as karate, badminton, trampolining, baseball, Australian rules football, korfball, basketball, gymnastics, running clubs, yoga and clay pigeon shooting.

This variety ensures that every pupil has the chance to explore, challenge themselves and, most importantly, have lots of fun.
